UN Special Envoy for #Somalia, James Swan, held discussions with civil society representatives in Puntland at the headquarters of the PuntlandNon-State Actors Association (PUNSAA). To prepare for this important task, PUNSAA conducted a thorough two-day training for 160 dedicated observers. These individuals were equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively monitor the elections, ensuring adherence to democratic principles. To streamline the observation and reporting process, we established an Elections Situation Room. This hub served as the central point for receiving real-time reports from various polling stations, allowing us to monitor the election closely and respond promptly to any irregularities. The chairman of PUNSAA, along with the director and key team members, visited several polling stations in Garowe. Their presence underscored our commitment to a transparent and credible election process, providing oversight and support where needed. The Elections Situation Room was honored to host several high-profile visitors, including the President of Puntland, the Vice-President, the Speaker of Parliament, and other government officials. Elections situation room staffed by the Elections Committee (PEC), personnel from the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Interior, and the Ministry of Women, along with police officers, the Elections Situation Room operated efficiently. A dedicated team collected and analyzed data from the polling stations, ensuring transparency and accessibility. The presence of media and a call center enabled citizens to report complaints and provided a direct line of communication for addressing any issues that arose during the elections. This collaborative effort between PUNSAA and its various stakeholders ensured that the elections in the three districts of Puntland were conducted smoothly and transparently. PUNSAA remains committed to supporting and enhancing democratic processes in the region.

This event brought together residents of the Nugaal region and MPs elected from the area. Approximately five MPs attended the forum, ready to address the public’s questions on various issues, creating an open platform for direct engagement between citizens and their representatives. This innovative platform, a first in Puntland, was well-received by participants who hailed it as a promising step towards strengthening the relationship and mutual understanding between the government and the people. The forum signifies a new era of transparency and responsiveness in Puntland’s political landscape, encouraging greater public participation and oversight.

the Puntland Non-State Actors Association (PUNSAA) and the Homeland Development Association (HOMDAS) formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to establish a partnership focused on strengthening capacity building for Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in Puntland, Somalia. The formal signing took place at the PUNSAA headquarters in Garowe, Puntland. The MOU was signed by Abdirahman Abdirisak of PUNSAA and Abshir Jama of HOMDAS. This partnership aims to empower civil society in Puntland and received strong support from government officials, international donors, and CSOs. The collaboration is expected to significantly enhance the capacity and effectiveness of CSOs in Puntland, contributing to sustainable development in the Puntland State.

Notably, the meeting was also animated by the enthusiasm of (IDPs) who actively participated in the elections of the Local Councils under the one man, one vote system in Puntland.
