The New Chairman and his Deputy Elected for PUNSAA

The 6th General Assembly meeting of Puntland’s Non-state Actors association was held at PDRC hall yesterday elected new board of directors.

The newly elected chairperson will lead Puntland’s Non-state Actors Association for the upcoming three years.

The General assembly was attended by Envoys from International Organizations esp; UNSOM, UNSOM & DIAKONIA, officials from Puntland State, Office of Puntland Human Rights Associations and delegates from non-state actors and other guests.

The chairperson, deputy Chair, and Executive committee were chosen during yesterday’s general Assembly Meeting.

Mr. Abdirahman Abdirizak Abdirahman Director of Tadamun who led there for 11 years in Tadamun Social Society was elected as the new Chairman of PUNSAA.

Abdirahman was one of the Co-founders of Puntland Students Association-PSA, member of the Red Sea University Board, member of Muslim World Non Actors Associations based in Turkey, former Member of Puntland Education Board & now he led Tadamun Society Social.

The new chairman served with dedication the UN, INGOs Humanitarian and Development sectors.

Mr Mursal Mohamud Abdi was chosen as the deputy chair, he is from the Elders of Puntland and served as social activist in the last 3 decades, he was the BoD of PUNSAA in the last two terms.

The elected chairman in his agenda has pledged to work as priorities on the following issues:

  • Conducting a large-scale reform on the management and regulations of the association.
  • Creation of a Strategic Operational Budget to fund the work of the organization aside from projects.
  • Strengthening the relations with Somalia’s development partners.
  • Advocating for the member organizations of the association.
  • Creating a consortium based on long-term projects which facilitate close collaboration between member organizations and development partners.
  • Completion of the construction of the PUNSAA headquarters.
  • Strengthening the relations between PUNSAA and Puntland diaspora communities.
  • Improving working relations with the government with a focus on collaborating on creating a culture of accountability.
  • Advocating for good governance and democratic practices which empower the citizens and ensure social justice.
  • Working on strengthening the unity of the people of Puntland.
  • Creating regional branches for the organization.
  • Working toward creating a national umbrella for civil society.
  • Encouraging local and foreign investment and the growth of small business and employment opportunities.
  • Raising community awareness and upholding the cultural and religious values of the community.
  • Combating corruption, tribalism, and acts against public order and safety.

PUNSAA is the formal body which convenes civil society in Puntland and it has a broad mandate and legitimacy.
