PUNSAA Hosts Groundbreaking Forum on MP Accountability in Garowe Puntland’s civil society umbrella organization, PUNSAA, held a landmark forum tonight in Garowe, focusing on the accountability of Members of Parliament (MPs) and the public. This event brought together residents of the Nugaal region and MPs elected from the area. Approximately five MPs attended the forum, ready to address the public’s questions on various issues, creating an open platform for direct engagement between citizens and their representatives. This innovative platform, a first in Puntland, was well-received by participants who hailed it as a promising step towards strengthening the relationship and mutual understanding between the government and the people. The forum signifies a new era of transparency and responsiveness in Puntland’s political landscape, encouraging greater public participation and oversight.

the Puntland Non-State Actors Association (PUNSAA) and the Homeland Development Association (HOMDAS) formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to establish a partnership focused on strengthening capacity building for Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in Puntland, Somalia. The formal signing took place at the PUNSAA headquarters in Garowe, Puntland. The MOU was signed by Abdirahman Abdirisak of PUNSAA and Abshir Jama of HOMDAS. This partnership aims to empower civil society in Puntland and received strong support from government officials, international donors, and CSOs. The collaboration is expected to significantly enhance the capacity and effectiveness of CSOs in Puntland, contributing to sustainable development in the Puntland State.

Notably, the meeting was also animated by the enthusiasm of (IDPs) who actively participated in the elections of the Local Councils under the one man, one vote system in Puntland.

The delegation, comprising key figures such as Ms. Renee Lariviere, Head of Projects, Ahmed Abdirahman Badiyow representing the Agency in Somalia, AU, and IGAD, and Mr. Abdirahman Bihi, Interpeace’s representative in Puntland, convened to strengthen ties and further their joint efforts. Under the overarching framework of the PUNSAA umbrella, Interpeace and PUNSAA are combining forces to champion vital initiatives centered around Democracy, Good Governance, and Civil Society Development. This collaborative endeavor underscores a shared commitment to fostering sustainable progress and positive change in the region.
